The Law School is home to the Institute of International Economic Law (IIEL). Professors, students, and IIEL advisors work year-round to research and publish articles in international economic law. The School’s Center for Law and Business facilitates this effort by hosting regular IIEL conference calls and other events that focus on the intersection of law and business. Professors Brummer and Schreier are the two Directors of the Institute of International Economic Law at Georgetown Law. Professors Brummer and Schreier have a long history of collaborating on international financial regulation and capital market intermediation projects.

  1. Career in Law

Brummer was a summer associate at the law firm of Covington & Burling in Washington, DC. He was a law clerk at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, DC, and a fellow at the Institute for Legal Studies at Georgetown University Law Center. Brummer onstitutional Law Section and Dean’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching. Brummer completed his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 2008, where he was an editor of the UCLA Law Review and won both the ABA Cwon a Certificate of Merit from the National Association of College & University Attorneys for his work on behalf of students on their educational rights and financial aid matters, including through representation before the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR). 

  1. Achievements

Brummer has been a published author in international financial regulation and capital market intermediation. He has written articles on the legal foundation of financial regulation, international tax and regulatory issues, and the automobile finance industry. Professors Brummer and Schreier have also collaborated on international financial regulation and capital market intermediation projects. Professors Brummer and Schreier are authors of “Capital Market Intermediaries: How to Regulate Them Without Blowing Up the World” (2017), a finalist for the Best Law Book Award, sponsored by The National Law Journal’s National Business Book Review.

Professors Brummer and Schreier have a strong commitment to the international protection of human rights and are committed to expanding access to justice. Brummer has spoken on international law, human rights, and the U.S. Supreme Court at academic conferences in Europe, Asia, Australia, and Latin America. Brummer is fluent in Spanish. He is fluent in Italian as well.
